I have never stayed in such a dirty, seedy hotel. The whole place smells like stale food and all the fixtures, furnishings, wallpaper, and facilities are dirty and old. The wallpaper in my room was yellow and ripped. The walls are paper thin so I could hear the person in the room next to me snoring and watching very loud TV. There was no one on reception when I arrived and the car park was closed. When I called, they gave me the entry number so I could park. I stayed for a number of nights for work, and during that time, the "housekeeping" simply remade my bed and haphazardly wiped my cutlery. There were kick marks on the bathroom door as if someone has tried breaking into the en suite bathroom in the past. There were spiders and insects in my room.
On the plus side, the room was nice and warm and my bathroom was clean enough. The water pressure and temperature was decent.
The surrounding area is also a little dodgy and I did not feel comfortable walking around there in the middle of the day, let alone in the dark.
I don't consider myself a snob, but I feel that a lot of the reviews below don't really show the true colours of this hotel.

Excellent little hotel to stay in . Rooms are clean and comfortable. Great price perfect for me when my lorry goes in for overnight inspection. Be back there again soon . Its undergoing refurbishment can see the difference since my last visit.

A lovely little hotel in a great location for Peterborough town centre. Offers rooms from budget to better, so all good prices. The rooms are well maintained and clean, with a comfy bed. Would defo use again

The Newark is a budget hotel about a mile from Peterborough city centre, so it may not be ideal for tourists (it's popular with forwarders, construction workers and such). But you can easily reach it by bus (lines 5, 5a) from the centre.
The hotel was still being refurbished when I arrived, and my en-suite double was certainly modern and clean. The bathroom facilities I found to be excellent, except there was no rag for the towels to dry, and the bathroom door didn't have a cylinder (yet?). The shower was big (no curtain or door though), and the water pressure adequate (not a given in budget hotels). The bed was comfy, and there was enough storage for my clothes and stuff. A 32" flat-screen Tv was provided, with a remote. Free Wifi was available, too. I really wish they would have provided a toilet brush though!
Early check-in went smoothly (direct email contact with the hotel was excellent), don't be put off by the gloomy-looking reception area. There's a very basically furnished garden to the back where you can hang out.
The room service was a bit spotty, but I really didn't need it every day anyway. ;)

Stayed thinking there was breakfast but don't do breakfast as the chef was sacked some of the staff are friendly but the other staff to busy smoking drugs on shift I will not be going back !!!!!+

It's dated but clean, bar is hit and miss some rooms are ensuite the are showers on the corridors
Our shower never stopped dripping all night. There is free WiFi and parking

It is what it is. Cheap and cheerful. Close to the city shops. A few takeaway places near-by.

Although the hotel is obviously old & needs some t l c in places the staff are absolutely wonderful ..rooms were clean & provided everything you needed..they couldn't do enough for you...friendly..helpful..& relaxed..will definitely recommend for a great stay.
